About Us
How Does Memory Makers Work?
Trained volunteers work alongside program staff to ensure participants have the assistance they need and can take full advantage of each day’s activities. Volunteers are background screened and come from various sectors of the community, including students from the university and dementia care advocates. Local musicians, artists, and others volunteer their time and talents for entertainment and activities.
Each day begins with a light snack and conversation among participants, staff, and volunteers. From there, music, exercise, dance, games, and much more fill the day, providing meaningful interactions and lots of opportunities for laughter and joy. When the weather is nice, we take advantage of a beautiful patio space!
While Memory Makers offers programming during weekdays, participants can enroll for just one day, or take part every day. Participants benefit from socialization with others from the community, while caregivers have peace of mind about the safety of their loved ones. The fee for participation is based on the number of days per week that one is enrolled, and billing is done monthly.
Lunch is served each day, as community organizations and individuals donate snacks, soup, and desserts to supplement the sandwich participants bring for themselves.
Who Can Participate?

Any adult who is experiencing memory loss but is still able to engage in social settings and group activities is ideal for Memory Makers. Before being approved for enrollment, potential participants are screened to determine if the program is appropriate for them. A doctor’s statement regarding general health, a tuberculosis test, and information from the family or caregiver is also required.
